Checkley Medieval Festival
         - Friday 2 September - Friday 9 September 2005

nnouncing Ye Checkley Village Medieval Festival which was held from Friday 2 September to 9 September in the year of our Lord 2005.  


Burp, Pardon meheckley nobles, peasants and illustrious guests celebrated in the presence of the Village's Royal Prince & Princess. Much rejoicing, feasting and drinking was partaken amongst the locals and their honoured guests as they paraded through Checkley's streets.

Does this make my head look fat? reat heroic deeds and acts of chivalry were performed by honourable and noble knights, in hope of winning the hearts of the fair maidens of Checkley Village. Shows of great bravery and skill were performed in the tournament ground and the Arms arena.

any traditional market wares, food and crafts were on show for perusal and barter, with numerous chances to enter in to the jingle, jingle magnificent bumper raffle. Our most welcome guests, Lord John Howard's Retinue from the Howard household, demonstrated shows of Medieval Dancing, Archery and Falconry for everyone's entertainment. They set up camp within the boundary of Checkley village for the week long festival, with many a night spent in the Red Lion.

or the more peaceful and god fearing parishioners there was a Flower Festival, within the great St Mary and All Saints Church , telling the tale of Noah. The Honourable Bishop, who performed a service followed by cheese and wine, opened the Flower Festival. A Medieval Church Service was also performed for the devout congregation and broadcast by Ye olde Radio Stoke. The Church was open for the duration of the celebrations with a Medieval Pageant by the Drama group and Youth Group on a number of evenings.

Pass the salt, pleasen a final celebration there was a Medieval Banquet on Friday 9th September at the great Checkley Manor house, Ye Community Centre. With lots more feasting, wines and beers, and of course, many a tall tales about the weeks exploits, all told under the watchful eye of the Baron and his Man at Arms.
