Clean Slate for New Broom
Venue: The New Broom, Uttoxeter Road, Checkley, Stoke-On-Trent, ST10 4NB
The New Broom on Uttoxeter Road in Checkley has a new licensee, new look and new focus. Formerly the First Emperor Chinese Restaurant, the pub has taken on its former name, and has a new focus.
Experienced chef Lee Saunders, aged 30, along with his partner Hana Dejmalikova, aged 25, have taken over the lease at the Marston’s Pub Company outlet and now offer high quality food at accessible prices. The pub has reopened as a no-smoking venue throughout in anticipation of this summer’s ban.
Lee said: "I’ve had the opportunity to work at some amazing establishments throughout my training and catering career. As well as valuable experience, I’ve also learned that great food does not have to cost the earth."
"I want people to come to my pub, enjoy high-quality produce and know that they are getting value for money. I want repeat customers, as well as one-off visitors on special occasions."
The new menu includes traditional and contemporary English cuisine including blade of beef, rabbit and ox, with a few eastern European dishes including goulash. Customers are also be able to dine on familiar pub fare, such as steak and ale pie and filet mignon.
The Checkley Webmaster attended the opening of the new look New Broom on Friday 11 May 2007 and was impressed with the amount of effort that had gone into the refurbishment. Lee and Hana were congenial hosts and the atmosphere was young and lively.
