Checkley is located on the A522 between Uttoxeter and Stoke-on-Trent, sandwiched between Lower Tean and Fole. The A50 runs close by and allows easy access to Checkley from both directions, though does create noise due to its concrete surface.

The parish of Checkley comes under the Staffordshire Moorlands County Council whose main offices are located in Leek.
